A Right to Respect: Victoria’s Plan to Prevent Violence Against Women outlines a whole of government strategy for reducing violence against women between 2010 and 2020.
Respectful Relationships Education in Schools is a report on best practice in secondary school violence prevention in Victoria produced by VicHealth in partnership with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Student Wellbeing Unit.

A time for action is the federal government’s plan for reducing violence against women and children. Implementation has already begun with the National Community Attitudes Survey and pilot projects in Respectful Relationships Education.
www.familyviolence.vic.gov.au provides direct access to Victorian government information on family violence and will be further developed over time to include links to regional initiatives.
Catching Online is a comprehensive Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development website devoted to sexuality education in schools.

Preventing violence before it occurs: a framework and background paper to guide the primary prevention of violence against women in Victoria This document presents a comprehensive ecological model to guide the primary prevention of violence against women and forms the background to ‘A Right to Respect’ mentioned below.
Two steps forward, one step back: Community attitudes to violence against women is a research report on VicHealth’s Community Attitudes Survey. It makes several recommendations for effective prevention strategies. You can also now download the 2009 National Community Attitudes survey.
Respectful Relationships Education in Schools is a report produced by VicHealth in partnership with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development that identifies best practice in school-based programs that support the development of respectful relationships.
The Health Costs of Violence outlines the burden of disease study that gave rise to the famous statistic “Violence against women is the leading contributor to ill health for women between the ages of 14 and 44.”
VicHealth also has a range of other publications relating to the primary prevention of violence against women.

Looked at the recently released state government plan to prevent violence against women, A Right to Respect, with particular focus on the education setting. Lara Fergus from the Office of Women’s Policy gave an overview of the state plan. Then David Billimoria and Erika Turner spoke to the Department of Education and Early Childhood’s plans in response to the Respectful Relationships Education in Schools report.
