Rosie's Place is community-based sexual assault counselling service for children, young people and their non-offending family members.
We see the purpose of counselling as assisting children, young people and families to challenge the effects of sexual abuse of which they have been subjected.
We seek to help and support families to explore the tactics used by perpetrators to trap them into the abuse and how these tactics have impacted upon their lives. Such tactics may result in secrecy, self-blame and feeling responsible for the abuse.
We believe that family intervention is crucial in counselling and seek to provide an environment of support which invites both the child and adult of non-offending family members to work together.
We also believe that children and their families possess resources that offer many new possibilities for themselves and their lives. Counselling provides a space to encourage families to explore these resources and reclaim their lives from the effects of abuse.
