The technology of abuse: Tips for domestic violence services

High-tech devices and means of communication can be both an asset and a threat for women experiencing domestic violence. Trainers from the Safety Net project in the USA recently visited Australia to teach domestic violence services how to help survivors to use technology safely.

Perpetrators of domestic violence are increasingly using technology in the abuse of women and children. The devices, programs and services available to them range from easily concealed cameras and car GPS units, to software that secretly monitors computer activity or switches on webcams.

Carer stress or domestic violence? Violence against older women

In April this year, DVRCV and CASA House held a forum on older women’s experience of family violence. One of the themes arising at the forum was the different approaches taken by the aged care sector and the family violence sector in relation to the abuse of older people. This is particularly evident where the perpetrator of the abuse is also the carer. In this article, Selina Nivelle from DVRCV explores these approaches.
