Northern Domestic Violence Service (NDVS)
The purpose of NDVS is to provide high quality,‘wrap around’ services to women and children affected by domestic violence and abuse through:
- The provision of early intervention and prevention programs
- Direct service support to families, including crisis intervention, accommodation, outreach, advocacy and tailored support packages to meet family risk and need
- Integrated responses provided in partnership with our key stakeholders
Services include the following:
- Information about domestic violence, including the types of help available and how to access assistance
- Domestic violence counselling for women and children
- Access to emergency accommodation
- Need and risk assessments
- Safety planning
- Practical assistance and support accessing legal, medical, financial, education, employment and housing services
- Women’s and children's groups
- Support services and assistance for children
- Referral and advocacy
- Outreach Support
Nunga Miminar supports Aboriginal women and their children escaping domestic violence (boys up to 12 years). Referral required from Crisis Care or domestic violence service.
Nunga Miminar services include:
- Emergency accommodation - up to three months
- Medium term supported accommodation - up to six months
- Counselling, advocacy and support
- Information and referral
- Outreach support services to transitional clients
