Sexual Assault Resource Centre (SARC)

Sexual Assault Resource Centre (SARC)

The Sexual Assault Resource Centre (SARC) is part of the Women and Newborn Health Service. SARC has over 35 years of experience in providing high-quality care for females and males, 13 years and over, who have been affected by sexual assault or sexual abuse.

SARC provides a 24-hour emergency service in metropolitan Perth. This involves medical care, a forensic examination and counselling support to people who have been sexually assaulted within the previous 14 days.

SARC also provides counselling in centres across the Perth metropolitan area to people who have experienced sexual assault and sexual abuse in the past.

SARC is a free confidential service. It is NOT part of the police, however SARC will support a person's decision to involve the police.

The SARC team has female medical doctors and female and male psychologists, social workers and clinical psychologists. They believe in offering choice and providing information to help people make informed decisions about their future.

SARC also has a state-wide education and training unit which has an important role to increase community knowledge and skills and challenge the myths surrounding sexual assault and sexual abuse. Included is a Respectful Relationships program which provides interactive sessions to young people on developing healthy relationships.
